Manufacturing &
Production Engineer
UAV Design and Development
About Skymark Aerospace
Skymark Aerospace develops uncrewed aircraft systems, with projects spanning aircraft platforms, propulsion integration, and onboard sensing technologies.
Our engineering work brings mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines together to develop and test practical UAV systems.
About the Role
We are seeking a Manufacturing and Production Engineer to develop the processes, tooling, and documentation needed to build UAV hardware consistently.
You will work with design engineers, technicians, suppliers, and project teams to support the transition from prototype development to repeatable aircraft and subsystem builds.
The role combines practical manufacturing support with process development. You will improve assembly methods, identify production constraints, and help balance quality, cost, and build time while maintaining control of parts, configurations, and engineering changes.
Key Responsibilities
- 01 Develop manufacturing and assembly sequences, work instructions, build records, and inspection checkpoints for aircraft and subsystems.
- 02 Review designs with mechanical and electrical engineers to improve manufacturability, assembly access, tolerances, and serviceability.
- 03 Design or specify jigs, fixtures, tooling, and workstation arrangements; verify that they support safe, consistent assembly.
- 04 Coordinate manufacturing bills of materials, part revisions, and build configurations with engineering and purchasing.
- 05 Assess supplier capabilities and clarify manufacturing specifications, lead times, and acceptance requirements with the relevant teams.
- 06 Support prototype and initial production builds, resolve process issues, and turn lessons from assembly into controlled improvements.
- 07 Develop inspection and process verification methods with engineering and test teams; investigate defects, rework, and recurring build problems.
- 08 Measure build time, yield, scrap, and rework where applicable; use the findings to improve workflows and estimate capacity and cost.
- 09 Assess manufacturing impacts of engineering changes, update affected instructions and tooling, and brief technicians on approved revisions.
Required Qualifications
- 01 Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- 02 Demonstrated experience developing manufacturing or assembly processes for physical hardware.
- 03 Ability to interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, material specifications, bills of materials, and technical requirements.
- 04 Practical understanding of fabrication, joining, fastening, inspection, and assembly methods relevant to mechanical or electromechanical products.
- 05 Experience preparing work instructions, developing tooling or fixtures, and supporting technicians during builds.
- 06 Ability to investigate process problems, analyse production data, and verify whether corrective changes improve results.
- 07 Strong documentation and communication skills, including coordination with design engineers, suppliers, and purchasing teams.
Preferred Experience
- 01 UAVs, aerospace hardware, robotics, or other products requiring lightweight assemblies and controlled build configurations.
- 02 Prototype or low-volume manufacturing and introduction of new products into repeatable production.
- 03 Composite assembly, machining, additive manufacturing, wiring harnesses, or integration of electronic equipment.
- 04 CAD tools, tooling design, tolerance analysis, or practical design for manufacture and assembly.
- 05 Quality systems, part and serial-number traceability, or ERP, MRP, and product lifecycle management tools.
- 06 Professional engineering registration or progress toward registration.
What You Will Contribute
You will help make each build more predictable and easier to inspect, document, and repeat.
Your work will connect engineering designs with practical assembly methods, reducing avoidable rework and giving the team clearer information about production readiness, cost, and capacity.
